A Quick History of Fallbrook

Fallbrook has its origins back in the late eighteen hundreds in the area of what is now Live Oak County Park. Several buildings still standing date back to that time period, including the first school house (now the Reche clubhouse), a church, and the Palomares House, once part of a historic rancho and now a building for public use. Fallbrook's rich history complements other North County cities' historyFallbrook originally known for its oak trees, also used to be a center for olive production, which eventually was encompassed by the avocado and floral trade. Friendly and Eclectic

One of the first things visitors notice about Fallbrook is its friendly nature and the sense of community that bonds an eclectic group of residents. New residents are encouraged to join the Fallbrook Newcomers Club. Members have found that they have met friends for life in this special group. The club is popular that many members don´t want to leave! Many other clubs and organizations in Fallbrook welcome new members. Residents can choose from the Fallbrook Music Society, the Art & Cultural Center, the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce, the Fallbrook Garden Club, the Fallbrook Gem and Mineralogical Society, the Fallbrook Land Conservancy, and the Fallbrook Historical Society. These groups are just a sample; Fallbrook has clubs and organizations for every hobby or interest! Finally Fallbrook residents take great pleasure in the annual Christmas parade every December. Fallbrookers take this time to celebrate family, community, and the holiday season.

 

Unique Businesses, Shops and Restaurants

Fallbrook takes pride in heritage and its historical emphasis can been seen throughout the downtown area. Main street offers quaint shops and restaurants and also features many art galleries. Fallbrook is also becoming widely known for its antique shops; take a lazy afternoon visit and see for yourself! A few unique Fallbrook businesses include an Alpaca farm, madacamia nut farms, and a store specializing in kettle corn. Fallbrook is able to maintain a small town feel, but still offer a variety of dining experiences. In Fallbrook you will find American, Continental, Greek, Italian, Mexican, Irish, and Chinese cuisine to tempt you. There is even a Sushi Bar!

 

Recreation

Fallbrook is known as a North County center for outdoor life! Enjoy the outdoors at Fallbrook´s 4 golf courses, numerous equestrian trails, and scenic country drives. Both families and individuals will love a visit to Live Oak Park, with its playing fields, a picnic area, playgrounds, and a flower field. Nature lovers cherish Los Jilgueros Preserve, 46 acres devoted to CA´s natural flora with walking trails. Over 50 species of birds have been sighted here! Dinwiddie Preserve, across from the Palomares house, is an excellent example of meadowlands preserve that is available for mixed use; visit here for a walk or a jog, or just enjoy the preserve!

 

Avocado Fest

Come to the avocado fest!  Held every year in April, this Fallbrook tradition features guacamole taste-tests, an avocado Olympics featuring avocado croquet and avocado pit spitting, a Little Mr. and Miss. Avocado pageant (kids 4-8), an Avocado 500 where cars made out of avocados compete, and the culinary contest for both professionals and amateurs. Don´t forget to check out the Antique Aircraft show and take a tour of the world-class Del Rey Avocado Company! The Avocado fest features hundreds of booths diplaying items for sale and also includes citrus, nuts and of course; avocados!  Don´t forget to take your picture next to the giant avocado!
